It's because everyone and their mother hates Anet here. I don't even know half of guru even posts here. I don't love Anet, I'll point out what they've done wrong, and what they will probably do wrong in GW2. But, guru don't need to go around preaching that ANet is the devil.

(for example: "WiK sucked". Tbh, it was probably the best actual quest-line in GW1)

It seems that a lot of people were spoiled by the constant updates with the WiK. I'd like to remind everyone that Anet has yet to keep to a timetable in almost three years with releasing promised material and that content updates are usually only two major updates per year, if at all. Please stop whining three weeks after one of the largest PvE content updates since EoTN. If you didn't like it, it's your fault for doing so.

No money, no honey! GW1 is free, so the community's getting that level of quality in return. Surprised? I know I wasn't. Buying GW2? Oh hell yea I know you all are! OLLOOLOLOOLLOO OOLOL LOLLLOO...

Well, considering they first said there would be regular content updates monthly, then failed on that promise. They then said there would be content updates every two months until immediately after they failed to meet that goal. Now its what, 3 or 4 months and they still don't meet it?

I don't expect more than what I paid for, but if they're going to say something then they should probably follow through...

I took the WiK as part of the less-than-spectacular 5th Anniversary Update, which wasn't really much of an update other than the WiK stuff that actually wrapped up months after. The WiK was great in a few respects, but they obviously had trouble getting updates to the quest-line along and out of the door consistently. Again, it was indeed free so I'm just making an observation here.

Nope, at least not in my case. If you get what you pay for and GW2 is also going to be f2p, my point is that we might as well expect the same quality/consistency of updates from that game. If Anet can't get their **it together with this game I doubt they will with the next.

So you're not buying Guild Wars 2 because in its later years Guild Wars has not had constant updates even though they've been "promised?"

You know there's going to be a good amount off attention on Guild Wars 2 for at least the first 3 years. If they don't have any other sequels probably a lot longer than that. So I guess you're going to not buy it on principle?

Well if principle when related to video games is that important to you go for it. Abstain for the almost guaranteed fun that millions of other people will enjoy. More power to ya.

Ya, I'm sure GW2 is going to have just 4 people working on it right away...

You can't deny the fact when GW1 was being cared for, we got regular amounts of content/updates. Same thing for GW2. Until they decide to make a GW3 (which will be a long ways away, hell I even doubt they will make a GW3) GW2 will be regularly updated.

The updates began suffering three years ago when they first announced it. It's not my only complaint (see my dead Dervish to the left for true resentment) however there will be other choices in extremely fun and entertaining video games. Yes, it's on principle, but frankly I'll be quite happy playing other games. Sorry if that offends you.

GW is not F2P, it's B2P. Those are very different things.

QFT for the most part. Everyone needs to keep in mind:

1) They haven't said anything specific about the PvP yet.

2) The generics they have said are mostly making organized PvP more accessible and observer-friendly, not less competitive.

While #2 is great in theory, most competitive players are concerned about the accessibility and focus on the observer detracting from the competitive side of the game. The intentions are good, but it's going to be one hell of a job to pull it off in reality.

Honestly I would of rather had a new expansion released before a new game altogether.

If it's good, yes. If it comes before Diablo 3 or if D3 turns out bad. If Diablo 3 turns out to be God's gift to mankind, no way I'm buying GW2 for more than $30.

What are the odds of D3 being bad? For me that could just not happen.
Anyway if GW2 turns out to be good I dont care if it costs me 100. Amount of fun I had in gw1 I would have payed that and double.

I merged a bunch of individual responses to get this to a length where it might be read. Hopefully I didn't forget anything that will keep it from being understandable.

Guild Wars was designed from the ground up to be a PvP game. That was the game the current griping-PvP players purchased. Somewhere around Nightfall release, there was a definitive shift away from GvG and first toward individualized play (heroes and hero battles) and then full-on PvE in general. The primary complaint that drives all other complaints is that Guild Wars is not the game we paid for, and many of us have sunk more money into Guild Wars than into any other game.

Guild Wars was not free. I've put over $200 American into it, and that was back when American dollars had value. The kicker here is that when I'd only put maybe a hundred in, the game was better than it is today, and it's really not just the lack of players. There is certainly some disillusionment involved, but things like armor insignias and a whole slew of other issues simply did not exist. The PvP players that remain and continue to talk know intellectually that the focus has long since shifted away from the product we bought, and that really wouldn't be such a kick in the balls if it weren't for the fact that Guild Wars PvP has always been one good update (and some third-party tournament support) away from true greatness, on the level of Starcraft or Counterstrike. And that is why we continue to stay and do our best to make it happen, even though we also know intellectually that it won't.

Guild Wars should probably not be classified as an MMO as everyone is wont to do. It will always fall short simply because it was not designed as an MMO. It was a PvP game from the start, and had a half-assed MMO shell stapled to it to try to generate a larger marketbase. At some point, ANet decided there was more money in that shell than in the real game, but that doesn't really change the fact that the part of the game that was so painstakingly crafted, and really the only part of the game that has anything new to offer, was not designed to be remotely like an MMO. I'd go so far as to say it represents an entirely new genre.
